Finally! X-Men Is Remembering Just How Powerful Professor X Actually Is

With the X-Men containing the most powerful psychics and telepathic heroes in the Marvel Universe, such as Jean Grey and Kid Omega, it’s easy to overlook who helped hone many of the X-Men’s impressive talents: Professor Charles Xavier. With Professor X taking on the world's most formidable heroes to escape Earth, Marvel is finally remembering just how insanely powerful Charles Xavier truly is.

Xavier was once able to puppeteer Magneto and use his powers to catapult his Avelon asteroid into deep space.

In Uncanny X-Men #11 – written by Gale Simone, with art by Javier Garrón– Charles Xavier is finally deciding to break out of his maximum-security prison, which he’s already proven cannot contain him. Even with a brain tumor and an altered mental state of being drugged, Xavier is easily able to use his telepathic abilities to convince villain Sarah Gaunt, to help aid in his escape.

When Rogue’s X-Men come to stop him, he one-shots the entire group, taking out Rogue, Jubilee, Gambit, and Wolverine, and leaving Nightcrawler stuck mid-air as Charles Xavier escapes to save his daughter.

Considering that Charles Xavier taught many of the Earth’s most powerful telepaths, it’s no surprise that the X-Men’s mentor is an extremely powerful mutant himself. Xavier has taken on omega-level mutants like Magneto and has pulled off incredibly powerful feats, such as psychically linking with every living being on Earth. The fact that Charles Xavier is able to take down most of his X-Men with a simple psychic blast is proof enough that he’s still one of the most powerful telepaths within the Marvel Universe.

Professor X may not be on Jean Grey’s level, but he remains a severe threat to every foe he faces. One of the very reasons Magneto wears his helmet is to prevent Xavier from entering his mind, a valid concern considering Xavier was once able to puppeteer Magneto and use his powers to catapult his Avelon asteroid into deep space. More impressively, Xavier could contact his X-Men from across space, light years away, and was able to project the minds of billions of Skrulls into the mind of Galactus in an attempt to stop the godly planet eater.

Charles Xavier was imprisoned for his role in Orchis' crimes, but despite the extensive measures taken to craft a prison specifically designed to hold a telepath of his caliber, he proved he could escape at will. In X-Men #35 by Gerry Duggan, Xavier demonstrated not only his immense telepathic power but also his strategic foresight—having implanted a subliminal command in the minds of every super-genius on Earth, ensuring that any system designed to contain him would always have a built-in loophole. With this psychic influence, he was able to outsmart Reed Richards and Tony Stark when they teamed up to create a prison cell for him.

X-Men Introduces a New Type of Mutant: What Are the Avians?

Marvel has introduced the Avians, a new subset of mutants, and it includes one of the founding members of the X-Men, who never suspected a thing.

It’s been revealed that Professor X is a member of a powerful and mysterious mutant subspecies known as the Avians. Because of this, he has a highly parasitic tumor on his brainstem, eating away at his powers. Despite his current altered mental state, Charles still manages to overpower incredibly strong heroes like Wolverine and Rogue. Xavier may be dying, but he’s going out in a blaze of glory, and now that he’s free and about to face down every single X-Men hero, Marvel is finally showcasing the full extent of Professor Charles Xavier’s power.
