MANILA – Capital1 and Chery Tiggo are seeking quarterfinal berths against tough opponents in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference qualifying round at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City on Saturday.
No. 11 Capital1 faces No. 2 Petro Gazz at 4 p.m. while No. 8 Chery Tiggo takes on No. 5 Choco Mucho at 6:30 p.m.
Both Solar Spikers and Crossovers are determined to win, inspired by the Galeries Tower Highrisers' stunning victory on Thursday.
Ysa Jimenez had a career-best 23 points, while France Ronquillo added 20 points and 13 excellent receptions as No. 10 Galeries Tower prevailed over No. 3 Cignal, 25-17, 25-22, 19-25, 25-19, to advance to the next round.
The Solar Spikers will rely on Thea Gagate, Des Clemente-De Guzman, Shola Alvarez, Roma Mae Doromal, Norielle Ipac, Heather Guino-o, Patty Orendain, Sydney Niegos, and Leila Cruz to overcome the Angels, bannered by Brooke Van Sickle, Myla Pablo, Aiza Pontillas, Remy Palma, and Nicole Tiamzon.
Meanwhile, Cess Robles, Ara Galang, Julia Samonte, Mary Rhose Dapol, Seth Rodriquez, Cza Carandang, Pauline Gaston, and Shaya Adorador are expected to deliver for Chery Tiggo.
Choco Mucho will be spearheaded by Sisi Rondina, Isa Molde, Dindin Manabat, Maika Ortiz, Royse Tubino, Cherry Nunag, Lorraine Pecana, and Mars Alba.
The winners of Saturday's matches will join Creamline and Galeries Tower in the quarterfinals.
The losers still have a chance to advance via the play-in tournament. Group 1 will feature teams ranked 7th, 10th, and 11th, while Group 2 consists of teams ranked 8th, 9th, and 12th. Both groups will compete in a single round-robin, with the top teams securing the last two quarterfinal spots.
Playing on the final day of qualifiers on Tuesday are No. 6 Farm Fresh against No. 7 Akari, and No. 4 PLDT against No. 9 ZUS Coffee. (PNA)
